The Everest region has more to offer then views of the world’s highest mountains; it is the homeland of the Sherpa people. On this trek our experienced guide (Sherpa) takes us away from the most trekked trails, introducing us both to his own village and the fabulous Mani Rimdu (Masked Dance) festival, as well as some of Khumbu’s remote and fascinating monasteries. We take several little-known trails affording views of Everest, Lhotse, Kangtaiga, Ama Dablam and the other great peaks of the Khumbu area.
The Mani Rimdu Festival will be at Tyanbpche Monastery in November and Thame Monastery in May as per the lunar calendar. The festival will be in the presence of the High Lama, the monks don elaborates brocade costumes and perform the ancient temple dances that have changed little for hundreds of years tradition, religion, and culture of the Sherpas.
